Jazz in Duketown is the annual free jazz festival in ’s-Hertogenbosch. Every Whitsun weekend, our Brabant capital transforms into one big open-air stage where jazz lovers from all over come together. From intimate performances to big concerts on packed squares, this free festival has been a true Dutch tradition for over fifty years.
From humble beginnings to national fame
The first edition of Jazz in Duketown took place in the early 1970s. A group of jazz enthusiasts from Den Bosch organised performances in local cafés and small venues. The love for jazz turned out to be greater than expected. The event quickly grew into a festival featuring both national and international artists. Today, Jazz in Duketown is the largest free-access jazz festival in the Netherlands.
Musical diversity in the heart of Den Bosch
What makes Jazz in Duketown so unique is how the city and music seamlessly blend together. The Markt, Parade and Kerkplein squares become the backdrop for performances in every imaginable jazz style — from traditional swing to modern fusion, soul, funk, and world music.
