A history full of hospitality

The living room of 's-Hertogenbosch

Anyone who wants to know what hospitality feels like, should go to Golden Tulip Hotel Central. Providing a warm welcome may not have been invented here, but it is deeply rooted in our DNA. And by that we mean that most Burgundian form of hospitality. In the best Brabant tradition. Like the hotel family of 's-Hertogenbosch that has been celebrating here for five generations. And like the first residents of this historic place celebrated it more than 600 years ago.

Come along to 1422

It is 1422. Dirck de Roover, generous citizen of 's-Hertogenbosch and also knight, gives himself a title, Lord of the Nemelaer, and a city castle, De Leeuwenborgh. Here he receives all of 's-Hertogenbosch. These were legendary cozy times. And then Jheronimus Bosch had yet to be born (more or less opposite). He too undoubtedly found pleasant inspiration here. Just like Emperor Maximilian of Austria and his wife Bianca Maria Sforza enjoyed themselves here a little later. To name but a few names.

Meanwhile at the Market

In the centuries that followed, the concept of hospitality was given a slightly different meaning. The Hoofdwacht established itself here on the Markt and gave the local guild of crooks a warm welcome. This place then briefly served as the most pleasant post office in the world. Until 1896, when the old warmth from Dirck's time returned. The house became a café-restaurant, called Central.

Birth of a hotel family

Not much later, Johan Rademaker, born host, arrived. He was the one who turned Central into a hotel in 1905 and laid the foundation for the hotel family of this city. His most illustrious successor to date? Grandson Tonny, the founder of the current, hypermodern, Burgundian hotel complex, who was active until he was 91. And now it is great-granddaughter Karin who, together with her team, shows every day what makes Hotel Central what it is and hopes to remain for a long time: the living room of 's-Hertogenbosch.

Historical atmosphere and ultra-modern in one

As historically atmospheric as Hotel Central is, it is also contemporary and hypermodern. This applies to all our 125 dream rooms, each of the 12 multifunctional top halls, brasserie Cé, private dining De Leeuwenborgh, the 14th century vaulted cellar De Hoofdwacht, the Moriaenbar, our fitness (with a magical view of the St. John's Cathedral) and our unique Penthouse.

Jheronimus was still a regular visitor here

Jheronimus Bosch was born diagonally across from where Hotel Central is now located in 1450. There is a good chance that little Jeroen played on our doorstep. So that years later, deeply inspired, he could grow into one of the world's most famous painters and by far the most famous citizen of 's-Hertogenbosch (with his studio next door to our building). We honor him with a statue on the Markt and a hall in our hotel.

Music also lives in Hotel Central

For over a hundred years, Hotel Central has been the beating heart of the most diverse activities in Den Bosch. Music often plays a leading role in this. Because it makes us very happy and it connects people. From live concerts to DJ sets. From carnival to Jazz in Duketown. And from shanty choirs to Jazzy Sounds. Music lives in Hotel Central. And how!

Enjoyment with a capital E

At Hotel Central we pamper you in every possible way. But also far and wide you can enjoy yourself with a capital E. From the picturesque cityscapes, the always inspiring Design Museum Den Bosch and the magnificent St. John's Cathedral to the internationally renowned Noordbrabants Museum and the beautiful Van Gogh National Park. Don't feel like walking? Go out with our e-bikes or (extra cozy) our tandem bike to Het Bossche Broek.

'When you are in Hotel Central, I want you to notice in everything that you are in the heart of Brabant. That you feel completely welcome. At ease and pleasantly pampered. This is coming home.'Karin Rademaker - Director
