How interior design and hospitality come together
05/29/2026How design determines the DNA of a hotel: Discover how interior architect Feran Thomassen transforms Hotel Central in Den Bosch with his designs into a unique place where history, experience, and hospitality come together. Design, too, is human work – Feran Thomassen masters that like no other
Good design is not just about beautiful materials or a clever layout. It is a form of communication. A guest senses whether a space feels right – or not. And that is exactly where Feran Thomassen excels. Time and again, he knows how to bring the character of a hotel to life. With his designs, he tells stories, without words.
In the case of Hotel Central in 's-Hertogenbosch – an icon in the heart of the city – it is not just about design, but about identity. "It’s all about you" is the hotel’s motto, and Thomassen translates that down to the smallest details. Every element contributes to the guest experience, without detracting from the monumental character of the building.
The design DNA of Hotel Central
The unique combination of history, art and hospitality makes Hotel Central a destination in itself. Think of the vaulted cellar De Hoofdwacht, dating from the 14th century, which Thomassen redesigned as a multifunctional space with flexible lighting and furnishings, smart solutions and an intimate bar – without losing sight of its historic character.
Or the designer carpet featuring fragments from the work of Jheronimus Bosch, specially designed in 2016 in honor of the Jeroen Bosch Year. Not only is the carpet a visual highlight, it also elegantly connects local history with the present. The meeting rooms, the brasserie and the private dining room Leeuwenborgh also feature a contemporary, warm and personal design – created to make guests feel both at home and special.
